Knife care

There are some basic things you should keep in mind when caring for your knives:

Damascus knives:

When using the knife, please keep in mind that the engraving (or the distinctive damask knife pattern) was etched onto the surface by acid. If you now cut acidic food (such as a lemon), this may damage the appearance of the knife.

In general, you should not clean these knives in the dishwasher. Wiping with warm water and if necessary a little neutral soap and the following drying is quite sufficient. In the same way, do not leave the knife in water, even if the blade is stainless, it is attacked by acids and salts.

If you want to sharpen your Damascus knife, please note that Damascus steel must be cooled before sharpening, e.g. with a wet whetstone. Use our webshop to buy kitchen knives online.

Ceramic Knives:

Even though a ceramic knife is much harder than a steel knife, care should be taken not to damage the knife or the blade. Likewise, the cutting or chopping of hard materials (eg bones or frozen) should be avoided. This is due to the fact that a ceramic blade can break due to your structure and can not give like a steel knife by bending.

Due to the hardness of the blade material, sharpening ceramic knives is only possible with particularly hard sharpening products. Grinding utensils with diamond coating, such as this electric knife grinder with diamond grinding wheels from our range, can grind ceramic knives.
